Edward Scissorhands uses a lot of pastel colours for all of the suburban houses. This gives a feeling of eighties nostalgia, but it also gives a feeling of mediocrity and conformity, and tells the audience about the kind of people who live in that area.
The dramatic, dark colour of Edwards house stands out more when compared to the colourful pastels of the village. When Edward comes down to the village, the black/grey of his costume and look stands out against the brighter colours in the village, this shows that he is different from the others, it makes it clearer to the audience how Edward might be feeling as the outsider.
The darker colour palette in the car makes Edward not look as out of place as he does when he is in scenes where some of the villagers are treating him as a spectacle.
In this scene Edward Scissorhands stand out becuase he is in black annd white while almost everything else in the scene is colourful. The colours are rich blues, yellows, reds and greens. Compared to them Edward stands out as the thing that's not normal in the world.
To finish the end of the film with some colour in Edwards wold that had none is powerful because it shows there has been a transition in Edwards life. He has experienced something new and he brought it back to his old home and is surrounded by it.
Kim's colour is represented by soft yellows and bright colours. This shows her naivety, innocence and goodness. Her mum, the avon lady, has colours of purple and green.
I think that there is a reason that the flowers in the final scene have a lot of yellow and some whites in them (representing Kim) and also some purple which represents the avon lady.
