Overall I'm quite happy with the animation work that I did for The Trip. I really enjoyed getting the opportunity to combine different styles of animation into one clip, and I also liked watching Daisy film and getting the opportunity to work with a film student and learn from her.
This project made me really have to think about how I wanted the final product to look, and it made me think about camera angles and lighting for lots of different aspects because I couldn't just have them all together while I was animating so I had to think about how everything would fit together.
I think that there are a lot of things that I need to improve on, but overall I think that the clip runs smoothly and the story is understandable. I think we captured the atmosphere that we hoped to.
There are a few things that I disliked, one was that the MASH network that I used didn't quite connect to the mesh as I'd hoped it would, and as a result, there are a few eye plants that don't look quite right as they sway on the hills. I feel like the sound could be improved on, but I think that is more because I don't have much confidence in my sound editing ability. I'm happy that I got an audio student to look over it at the end though because she gave me some really good suggestions that I hadn't thought of in regards to some of the sounds and some of the volumes, so I think that it is one of my better attempts at sound so far.
There were some things in the proposal that were left out of the final piece, one being the veins in the mountains, and the other being the moving sky. I didn't animate the sky moving, mainly because we decided it would just add unnecessary work, seeing as the sky design looked a bit like an optical illusion that moved once combined with the movement of the mountains and the character anyway. The veins in the mountains also seemed unnecessary in the end too. Although I still think they would have been awesome to have, I also think that, once combined with the moving mountains and the eyes, it would maybe be distracting more than anything else.
I'm quite happy with the finished product and I think I learned a lot doing it. It was a fun project.
