Major Project-First draft Script

Here is the first draft of my script for the pilot episode of Tales from the Kitchen Cupboard. It still might change. I intend to get my voice actors picked and their dialogue recorded as soon as possible so I can begin to work out timings and get my animatic done.  FADE IN: INT. KITCHEN. DAYTIME. RAT is eating food that has been dropped on the floor. In the background PERSON1 leans against the frame of an open kitchen door. He doesn't know that RAT is there. PERSON1 holds a smoke in his hand. He baptises the smoke, then lights it up and begins to smoke. (10Sec?) RAT looks up, and tenses slightly before he scurries away to a corner of the room. He carries the food he was eating in his mouth as he goes. As this happens, PERSON2 enters the kitchen from a second door, he carries shopping bags in his hands. (4sec?) PERSON2 Hey man. PERSON1 Hey man. PERSON2 walks over to the bench and puts the shopping bags down on it. RAT watches PERSON2 as he enters and wal...

BSA306 Class Work

The differences between how the two directors make a film was very interesting. The first director used lots of post production and special effects to make something that was filmed on a very small scale with little equipment seem very dramatic. The second director filmed something over a huge length of time, 12 years. This was also very small budget, getting the bare minimum needed every year. I found the first example really cool because there was really inventive visual effects used to make a great scene that feels very cinematic, despite it being made in such a small area. The green screen and post productions effects used in making Sin City was interesting to see, especially to see how dramatic effects can change a film. Boyhood was interesting because it was made over a period spanning 12 years. That interested me because it meant the age change felt very natural. It was a really long coming of age film to shoot, but I think the extra time meant that the actors could grow up ...

BSA326 MASH Networks

We did some stuff using the MASH Network.  First I made a shape and put some lights into my scene, then I created a Mash Network. After that I added a Replicator node and an Audio node.  I added some sound to the audio node. I had to use a .WAV file because Maya didn't like the other format I tried first.  After I did that I pushed play and the shapes moved in time with the music.  I took a screenshot of one of the renders:

Major Project; Concepts and Examples.

The concept for my major project is: Capturing Subjectivity on film. By this I mean that I want to effectively differentiate one character's individual experience of the world with the 'outside world' that they inhabit. I want to show both the differences and similarities between the characters world and the wider world that they live in. I intend to experiment with different film techniques to show the world from a subjective point of view. I am hoping to create the pilot for a webseries that features a group of flatmates in their 20s, being watched by a rat who lives in their house. The concept was inspired by the rats living in my own house. Myself and my flatmates have had issues with mice and rats throughout our time living together, and we complain about them regularly. One day I wondered how the rats feel about us, and how it would be to be in the rats position. I want to try and capture the humans how I imagine the rats might see them. I want the rat to be more re...

BSA306 Brainstorming ideas (Week 1)

I want my major project this year to be something around the concept of an observer watching a world that they inhabit, but are not part of. I was inspired by the mice and rats that we keep getting in our flat. One day I thought about how we see them vs how they see us and I realised how different that must be. I thought if I shot the film from the viewpoint of the mouse, I could mess with time, proportion and even how recognisable the humans are. In my mind, the humans will be the 'aliens' of the piece, with the mouse being more recognisable to the audience than the human characters. I want the humans to be drawn using 2D, out of proportion, and I also want to mess with timing and form because I want to try and emulate how the small animal would see them. I am wondering how I am going to stylise them. I have a vague idea in my head, but it's not very clear. For this class I want to think about experimenting with the style that the humans will be drawn in, also I want to...
