BSA306 One Small Step Review

One Small Step (2018) is a short film by TAIKO studio that tells the story of a young girl who dreams of being an astronaut and her father who mends shoes. The short film won a lot of awards. The style is a 2D animated, cartoon style, but I think it was made in 3D. The story is nice, even though it's really sad. I liked when they flew the rockets through a cardboard sky. I also liked the use of colour to emphasise the mood.

BSA306 Other options instead of Maya

A Boy and his Kite was made in 2015 by Epic Games t9o show how the Unreal Engine could be used (free and no royalties) to make animations. The film has dynamic lighting, effects, DOF, motion blur and procedurally placed vegetation. Peter Monga made a preschool series inspired by shows like The Wombles, Postman Pat and Pingu called Morgan Lives in a Rocket House. This was also rendered using Unreal Engine and the shading, lighting and effects were done in that. It cut down the render time hugely, he still used Maya for modelling and animation and textured using Photoshop. 3rd World Studios used Unreal Engine for the previs, evironments, effects, shading, lighting and rendering of their feature film Allahyar and the legend of Markhor.  Michael Bolufer used Unity Game Engine to make Mr.Carton which was a series of 13 two minute episodes. To cut down on time, he used Blender, 3DS Max and Unity for the modelling, rigging and animation.
