BSA306 Amelie review

Amelie is a 2001 french rom-com, directed by Jean-Pierre Jeunet that follows the story of a young, introverted woman who tries to change the lives of those around her. The colour scheme is very striking and the filming techniques are also quite cool. The animation brings out the fantasy, magical elements in the plot making it seem more whimsical.  I liked it and found it funny.

BSA306 Russian Ark

We watched Russian Ark in class, a 2002 experimental historical drama film directed by Alexander Sokurov. The film follows a narrator, who I think is a ghost, as he watches historical figures and goes through an art gallery. The film seems to be shot in one continuous, meandering take, which at times I found a little distracting. I still enjoyed the film though, and found myself drawn in from beginning to end despite it.

BSA306 Baraka (1992)

I caught the end of  Baraka (1992), directed by Ron Fricke. it is a documentary film without narrative or voice over, but instead it shows a compilation of natural events, life, human activities and technological phenomena. It was shot in 24 countries on 6 continents over a 14 month period. I didn't get to see the whole thing, but from what I saw the film depicted humanity and how we see the world from our different but similar perspectives, sort of like a celebration of life. In a way, the absence of dialogue/voice-over made it so the film was open to a lot more interpretation because the audience wasn't being told what they should be feeling, it was all up to their own experience. It made the film more impactful and thoughtful because it encourages the audience to feel about it whatever they do without being swayed by someone else's opinion. I can't recommend the film because I haven't seen the whole film fully, but I would like to watch the whole film from star
